Fix Our Food Commission – Academic Research & Sustainability Platform
Designed and developed by Druphie for the University of York, the Fix Our Food Commission website serves as a comprehensive digital platform supporting research, collaboration and public engagement around food system transformation and agricultural sustainability. Built using Craft CMS, the website brings together academic research, policy discussion, educational resources and community contributions within a flexible and accessible online environment, helping to advance conversations around the future of food production, food security and sustainable agriculture.
The project was created to support a major academic initiative exploring how food systems can become healthier, fairer and more environmentally sustainable. As a content-rich research platform, the website needed to accommodate a wide range of audiences, including academics, policymakers, industry stakeholders, educators, students and members of the public. The result is a highly flexible website that enables the University of York and project partners to publish, share and promote valuable research and insights in an engaging and accessible format.
Built on Craft CMS, the platform provides a powerful and intuitive content management experience, allowing editorial teams to manage complex content structures without technical expertise. The CMS architecture was designed to support the long-term evolution of the project, providing flexibility for new research outputs, campaigns, resources and stakeholder engagement activities.
A key feature of the website is its comprehensive resource directory, which enables visitors to discover and access a wide range of publications, reports, research papers, educational materials and sustainability-focused content. Resources can be categorised, filtered and organised to help users quickly locate relevant information, supporting knowledge sharing across the food and agriculture sectors.
To encourage collaboration and community participation, the platform also includes functionality for user-generated resource submissions. This allows external contributors, researchers and partner organisations to submit content for review and publication, helping to create a growing repository of information and encouraging wider engagement with the project's objectives.
Alongside the resource library, the website incorporates a fully integrated blog and news platform, enabling the publication of research updates, project developments, thought leadership articles and commentary on issues relating to sustainable food systems, climate change, regenerative agriculture and food policy. This content plays an important role in maintaining engagement and supporting the project's ongoing communications strategy.
Newsletter subscription functionality was also integrated to support audience growth and stakeholder engagement. Visitors can subscribe to receive updates on research findings, events, publications and project milestones, helping the Fix Our Food Commission build and maintain an active community around its work.
Throughout the project, particular attention was paid to accessibility, usability and search engine optimisation, ensuring that valuable research and resources can be discovered easily by users and search engines alike. The resulting platform provides a robust digital foundation for one of the UK's most important food sustainability initiatives, helping to connect research, policy and public engagement in support of a more resilient and sustainable food future.
The result is a modern, scalable and content-rich academic website that combines powerful content management, resource discovery tools and stakeholder engagement features, enabling the University of York and the Fix Our Food Commission to maximise the reach and impact of their research and sustainability initiatives.
